What are EDT lessons? Check out the below introduction to your Essential Driver Training, from the Road Safety Authority.
What is covered in EDT Lesson #3?
In lesson 3 we will work on improving your observational skills in low-traffic areas, covering turns, roundaboutsand junctions. By the end of the lesson you should feel more confident with using your ‘MSMM’ routine in driving situations.
Watch this ISM video from an example of observation and position for turns and junctions.
What is the ‘MSMM’ routine?
M – Mirror (check them)
S – Signal (to turn left, right or change lane)
M – Mirror (double check to make sure it’s safe to turn or change lane)
M – Manoeuvre (make your change in direction if it is safe to do so)
You will also learn to use the ‘LADA’ routine to help with your observation and safety when making turns:
L – Look (for oncoming cars, cyclists, pedestrians and other road users)
A – Assess (the situation and be aware of the potential hazards)
D – Decide (if it’s safe to proceed)
A – Act (proceed if it’s safe to do so)
